Reading a long novel about two immature people having a platonic relationship, predominantly conducted by email, is a very boring way to write a novel.
This book is so dull and eventless...there's realism, and then there's just plain god damn boring.

That's it, I'm done. I can't stand any more Henry James. Even just scanning the pages with very little understanding, I still cannot tolerate any more. It's a pointless waste of time to read James. He is the worst writer in English. It is a scandal he is considered to be such a great writer.

This book is sorely, egregiously, disappointingly and tragically in need of editing.
After 400 pages I can say that 30-50% could have been cut, deleted, or saved for a companion book called 'Knausgard's Quasi-Intellectual Ramblings.'
What started as proper literature has descended to self-absorbed posturing.

It is very unusual that I don't finish a novel, and I hate to concede, but, it's just so fucking terrible!
NOTHING HAPPENS!
I've read 300 pages and nothing has happened.
There is an event to celebrate Austria, and there was a trial for a killer. 300 pages these things are written about, but there has been no progress at all. It's not even a fucking story!

I'll spend the rest of the summer reading good books.
