Absolutely loving this. It's a struggle to only read the chapter on the current day, though!

I’m really enjoying this so far. I’m getting a hybrid Jack Vance/Patrick O’Brian vibe, which is high praise indeed in my book.

This is a fantastically well-written book that explains brilliantly the thought processes, both economic and geopolitical, that led to disaster. It's incredibly depressing, but massively illuminating. The post-truth nature of information, coupled with the mix of misguided pacifism, non-interventionism and appeasement certainly scares me in our current circumstances. I urge you to read it.

This is a fascinating and brilliantly written book. But by God, it's depressing. My main takeaway so far is that Stalin may well have been the worst human ever to have set foot on this planet. And, despite already knowing quite a lot about Russian and German history, that's not a prize I expected him to take, considering the opposition.

Disappointingly, I'm not really engaging with this so far. Is it a slow starter, or are we just incompatible?

My book buying addiction, and hence my To Read list, are totally out of control, But I think I really want to go on a Vance, Tolkien and May binge for the next 6 months. Must resist the new.

This us a superb read. Chapter 20, on the fact that the vast majority of kills were made by 5% of the pilots on each side, and why that is, is particularly fascinating.

This is a brilliant book, and has given me a totally new perspective even on historical events I thought I was completely across. But by God, it's long! Just as well I was well ahead of target on my Goodreads challenge!

This is really hard work. I enjoyed the first two in the series, despite their many flaws, but this is just... bad.
