Sue is starting The Poisonwood Bible
I finished this book last summer and forgot to mark it read!

I enjoyed it, but it felt a bit too long for me and I wanted it sorted out sooner. The man was an idiot. Why his wife agreed to go I have no idea.

All in all, a good read. Just not my favourite.

I forgot to come on and update when I finished this book!

I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the story premise, which was unusual, and I enjoyed the way it was told. If I had any criticism of it, it would be that it weakened towards the end. Almost as if the writer had run out of a bit of steam. However, still well worth the read. It reminded me of His Dark Materials a bit.

Excellent adventure.

Fast paced, good plot and well controlled ending. Thoroughly recommend if you want a bit of 'action movie' vibe in the pages of a book.

Can't fault the writing. I didn't spot a single typo or grammatical error.

I will definitely be ordering the next book in the series now.

Sue is starting Oestrogen Matters: Why Taking Hormones in Menopause Can Improve Women's Well-Being and Lengthen Their Lives - Without Raising the Risk of Breast Cancer
This book is excellent. All women in their 30's and beyond should read it just to help them understand for themselves just how bad the scares and misinformation is out there.

Sue is starting The Last Sanctuary in Aleppo: A Remarkable True Story of Courage, Survival and Hope
Having followed the Cat Man of Aleppo on Twitter and Facebook, this book is the icing on the cake. It gives us Alaa's life story and all he has been able to do to save people and animals during the horrible Syrian war. An ordinary man achieving the extraordinary through sheer determination, hard work and love.

Struggling with this. Not because it's hard reading but because it is simply backing up my worst fears.

I'm not in any hurry to devote the time to it at the moment.

This is such an unusual book. I am really enjoying it. It's a good story and very well woven together.

Those who had read and reviewed it said it was a beautiful cover so rather than buy the kindle version I ordered the hardback. So glad I did. It's probably the most beautiful contemporary book I have. Both the dust jacket and book cover are lovely.

Sue is starting Red Sparrow (Red Sparrow Trilogy, #1)
I thoroughly enjoyed this spy story. It is not my usual genre but I want to read more of them and this was a great start. I will be reading the second book in the series shortly. The author, on Radio 2 recently, said he felt the second book was better than the first, so I'm really looking forward to that. Having worked for the CIA for many years, the reality of espionage really came through in his novel.

Sue is reading The Martian
What an absolutely fabulous book!

Took me totally by surprise. I would not have chosen to pick this one up without it being recommended.

Talk about a nail biting story, that cracks along.

Read it. There's a film coming, but read the book first.

Well done Andy Weir.

I didn't know if I would enjoy this type of book. But it's getting to grip me now. Looking forward to the rest of it.

Sue is starting The Lowland
I'm still reading this book but I still don't like it! It's mostly third person but doesn't engage me with the characters at all. It's a miserable fairly depressing race through someone's life and the political situation in India. I sort of don't want to give up but I will be pleased to finish it and I won't read more by this author or recommend this one!

Sue is starting The Lowland
This is a weird one. It reads more like a political history of India with a sort of novel bolted on. I want to know what happens but I feel no empathy with the characters and feel that the story is almost secondary and 2-dimensional. It just races through the characters lives with no pause for the reader to catch up. More later when I've either finished or given up!

Fabulous book. I really got into that desert with them.

I would recommend it because it's a clever and touching story but it's also very well written.

The language, the descriptions, all make it come alive off the page. It's a world I've never experienced so it's important that the novelist gets the different world across properly and Tom Gamble has done this with ease.

Reading this on the iPad as it seems very appropriate whilst we are staying on a wild and windy moor. I read it years ago and enjoyed it and am hoping its as good second time around.

It's quite interesting and very well written. But it's slow and not what I would call a page turner. More like something to psych myself up for. It's not a holiday read so its on hold at the moment.
