I think it's irritating and poor writing technique to keep referring to a conversation that the MC had with a missing person, yet not give us any idea what that convo was about, sidestepping doing so by just saying she "told person X about the convo they had" - this is clearly going to be some kind of big reveal, but just a heads up, this ISN'T how foreshadowing is supposed to be done 🙄

Hey, was the MCs book about 4 best friends who loved each other so much??? (heavy sarcasm)

Hmm so I've audio-read 40% of this book since I borrowed the book yesterday - so it's quite easy to listen to and Julia Whelan is a great narrator.

However, Barb - the black female friend of the FMC? Basically a five minute explanation that Frankie now "gets" the struggle black people were facing, despite admitting herself having never encountered black people in her younger days...

Eeeehhhh idk about this one. Like....i just never buy the whole "oh I can't go for it because I just ruin everything" complex. Maybe it's real and not a "woe is me" deal, but I just don't believe it.

Not enjoying the ADHD depiction and my god why does she CRY EVERY OTHER PAGE??? Listen, I have ADHD, am a deeply emotional and very sensitive person, but I know how to regulate my emotions as an adult - not always, and not always successful at it - but like....lady, get some therapy.

I find myself needing to force myself to slow down my reading, as I can feel the pages passing by as quickly as Achilles' fingers must have done over the lyre

Good lord, the author's penchant for repetition - and I don't just mean "pack, sun, home", I mean like the freaking main plot points of how Joe gave Ox the wolf statue, and how he is not worthy, and good lord, literally everything else - feels borderline obsessive at this point. It's driving me up the wall.

I really need authors to stop trying to write song lyrics. They are never good, often much worse than that. Writing a book and writing a song is not the same skill set.

I mean, I get people are into different things, but no part of me ever likes hearing "he had his hand on her throat". Also, "he spit the whisky into her mouth" - ok maybe they are into sub-dom stuff, but this all felt like.... degrading, not sexy (and not in the "i have a degradation kink" way....) this book is awful

This book sucks, but I will finish because it is so short...

Not trying to be unkind because I know it must be hard work, but I swear the narrator for the FMC sounds like Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam when she reads lines for the MMC 😆

I'm sorry, but like.... isn't his voice in his/ her head the same as his actual voice? This is really dumb and I need this part to go by really fast because it aggravates me
