I'm liking this more than the other one, and it's immediately more understandable than the opening of Tender Rebel. I've seen someone say you can read this series in any order but just based off this I highly disagree.

It's honestly confusing on whose head we are actually in. Are we in Nettie's head? We keep seeing her thoughts? But Rosalynn is our main character. PICK ONE

LOVE Mancala

I really enjoy how the book is formatted. The chapters are short, but they often flow right into each other. Each chapter has a point, a goal, and the chapter title helps explain.

I'm loving being in Emani's head. Also I feel as if I'm going to see everyone I know in this book. I know an Emani, I know an Angelica, I know a Malachi, and my name is Emma. This is very much a train of though/character driven novel.

I ADORE books that have recipes inside. I know this book is about food, and character's connections with food, but rarely do we get recipes.

Ok look, I'm glad that we are learning more about Charlie, but this doesn't feel like his scene. The pages about Nora, and her deserved cry, should have been at least 3 pages longer. Right now it just feels like Charlie trauma dumping on her because he doesn't know what else to say. Just let her cry dude.
