This is powerfully not doing it for me. I rarely DNF a book anymore but I'm really not enjoying the writing style and the information provided is exceptionally shallow and more of an overview of influencer culture than the ways language has been impacted by the social media era of online life.

This book is funny in a way I haven't come across since reading Gogol's Dead Souls. I keep finding myself emitting small barks of laughter into the room leading my family to ask me what I'm reading.

Is it possible to both adore a book and find it incredibly annoying at the same time? I'm finding out!

There is truly no better book to prepare us for the time we live in. That Butler wrote this over 30 years ago is astoundingly prescient but like Dylan said, "you don't need a weatherman to tell you which way the wind's blowing." God is change indeed.

I've been hungering for this ever since devouring the first book last year, so when my hold came in at the library I dropped every other reading project I'm involved in to happily get back to sleuthing through this steam punk world of kaiju. Din is still a sad sack but I love Ana Dolabra and I adore the world building.

It's long past time for a reread of this. Butler is the best scifi mind since Mary Shelley and Earthseed is her opus.

I often feel like most contemporary trans literature is in conversation with the works that have come before, but I still found it a bit jarring when the characters name checked Detransituon Baby.

It's absolutely insane to me that the author, a former New Zealand diplomat, is so ignorant of local laws, languages, and customs of the various countries she visits. I know that Facebook is incredibly willfully ignorant of the world outside its program but even the person they hired to liaise with state entities is shockingly uninformed to the point of embarrassment. I can't imagine being that bad at my job.

Getting a jump on closing out my reading year with my requisite Malazan book. This series is so vast that I only read one book a year, in the month of December, & it's very comforting knowing that I have at least one enticing book set aside for the next six years.

Being a book lover is a marathon, not a sprint. I'm taking the really long perspective here. I plan on reading right up to the grave.

This just might be the perfect crime novel.

The news is so bad that I had to pull one of my "Break Glass in Case of Emergency" books off the shelves to finally read. Does anyone else do this? My family thinks I'm insane for this, but I save books I know I'm going to love for times when I need an instant pick-me-up. I've held onto this one for 15 years waiting for the right time. The time is now.

Between this, Little Blue Encyclopedia, and I Saw the TV Glow, media about fictional children's television programs are really having a moment right now. I've said it before and I'll say it again, nostalgia for some hazily remembered yesteryear is a trap.

Leckie continues to make a powerful case for being my favorite contemporary scifi writer.

It's taken me three years to read this book because every time I try to make some headway with it, I read a description of humanity's very cavalier treatment of the nonhuman world that just makes me heartsick and need to go sit under a tree in my own little slice of wilderness restoration.

I'd have read this book a long long time ago if anyone had told me that it was as deliciously gay as it is.

The Wheel weaves as the wheel wills and I guess the premiere of the new Amazon series means that it's time for my 3rd read through of this series.

I'm loving this book quite a lot, but my pace is glacial because I really struggle reading short stories. Nothing against short story writers, my brain is just formatted for long-form fiction.

I am absolutely loving getting to see H.P. Lovecraft be so thoroughly roasted for not only his xenophobic racism but also his anti-intellectual fear of math. N.K. Jemisin is just spoon-feeding me greatness here.
