The secularists have not wrecked divine things; but the secularists have wrecked secular things . . .they do not destroy orthodoxy; they only destroy political and common courage sense.

Lest I be guilty before proven innocent—it's easy to disagree with things I misunderstand. If anything insecurity often voices itself in noisy disagreeement. My goal then is to at the very least, understand first, then, disagree. Who knows, maybe I'll find myself in enjoying a slighltly different section of the menu then others might. But we can still rejoice that we're all at the same restaurant.

Children at play are not playing about; their games should be seen as their most serious-minded activity. So it is with deconstructors: their games, when played in earnest to the end, undo commentaries, canons, and civilizations.

The swiftest things are the softest things. A stone is helpless, because a stone is hard—by its own nature go downwards. Seriousness is not a virtue. It would be a heresy, but a much more sensible heresy, to say that seriousness is a vice. For solemnity flows out of men naturally; but laughter is a leap. It is easy to be heavy: hard to be light. Satan fell by the force of gravity.

Genesis leads readers to expect Yahweh’s defeat of evil to be accomplished through Abraham, Jacob, and perhaps Joseph or Judah. Unexpectedly, however, the seed of the woman in the book of Exodus is raised up from Levi. In a sense, the seed through whom the seed of the serpent is crushed in the book of Exodus (Moses), is a prophet, a priest, and a king.

The great challenge in biblical theology is to hold together everything the Bible says so that nothing is nullified, negated, or neglected.

He said, “Be perfect,” He meant it. It is hard; but the sort of compromise we are all hankering after is harder—in fact, it is impossible. It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

Notice that to make secularism the approved religion is to establish a religion. The religion you have established has no candles, altars, or pulpits, but it remains the reigning worldview, the one that reserves to itself the authority to sit in judgment on all other religions. Thus, a secularist magistrate reserves the right to pronounce that Ahmed the Jihadist is not a “true Muslim.” Good to know, good to know.

Unbelief does not generate free societies. Out of all the explicitly atheistic societies that formed over the course of the last century, how many of them were open and free societies? Ah . . .

You had better make God's mercies a means to lessen your sins than to be the aggravation of your sins. If you do not make the mercies of God help you against your murmuring, you will make them aggravations of the sin of murmuring.
