I wish that I had read this before I started teaching Pride and Prejudice. So far, nothing is a revelation, but I taught this novel at least 7 or 8 times.

Kingsolver is amazing and devastating at the same time. She opens the window and invites the reader to hear and watch real people in love and in anguish.

So far, I'm not loving this. Gary wrote that it is uplifting, so I'm slogging on. Louis has beEn a thief , an Olympic runner and now a bombardier in WWII . I'm still not that interested . The writing just is plodding. If Louis has so much energy, I'll Marshall on for a while.

Suzanne is finished with Arcadia
This takes a bit of energy in the beginning, but I think it's going to be worth it. Bit is a 5 year old narrator. showing the reader what life was like on a Hippie commune in the late 60's. Not all sex and drugs.

Suzanne is on page 500 of 637 of A Prayer for Owen Meany
This is a reread, but I read it so long ago, it's almost new. It is so much more impressive than The Art of Fielding. The main characters, Owen Meany, Hester and John are so much more interesting, unique and believeable . Imagine a 24 year old chopping off part of his finger to avoid the draft . Anyway, this is a great reread!!

Suzanne is on page 85 of 512 of The Art of Fielding
Reminds me of John Irving. So far the main character is a young athlete . There are many colorful characters like his teammate Schwartz, his roommate and the head of his college. They are no way get as strange as Irving's characters, but for Henry, they're colorful. It isn't about baseball , but about relationships between young men. I think.

I'm afraid to open this large book which is the next book for our book club. I had no idea it was about baseball. I don't care about sports with balls. What have I gotten myself into?

I lolobr the bookshop owner Roger Mifflir. The mystery seems kind of dumb . I love that Morely tosses around titles and authors.
