Poor Shug/Shuggie.

I haven't read any of the reviews about this book yet to see what other's have thought, but I'm sort of irritated with CLAIRE. WTH?

And, I'm Stage IV. So. Okay. But. WTH? (this is what I've been thinking all along)

This story hits close to home. I love it because it's about the caregiver/s.

When I was diagnosed, I remember certain comments from family members. I've felt sorry for Elliott. The rules of communication with someone who might be (and in the case of this story, IS) dying is like walking through a pasture filled with cow patties blindfolded and expect to come out the other side without having stepped in "it."

Whoa.

That took some regrouping to get we're going with 2nd POV now!

I feel this book should be titled "All the Little Tragedies"

"And do what, chest compressions?"

SNORT.

Up in the middle of the night, so what did I do? Read.

There's this undertone here that makes me nervous about what might happen.

I don't know why I have this bad feeling, but I do.

This really is very good!

So many threads to follow, but I love how we get these quick, snappy updates where LOTS has happened by a simple letter to "so and so" and boom. As a reader you know what's happened. Just listened to Theodore's backstory. So sad!

For those curious, this novel was re-issued in 2025, originally published in 1961. It's the book that Sylvia Plath had in her possession right before she committed suicide. So far, it's good. (and I'm glad the ha-ha was explained! It's not what you think!)

It might be the audiobook narrator, but at this point, Ms. Sybil VanAntwerpsounds stuffy, very prudish and at times, fitting to her name. 🫤

There are parts that make me laugh, though.

A very different book.
