Truly excellent so far.

Be forewarned - it's brutal. If you're a sensitive reader, not the book for you. (js)

I love learning this culture. There is so much significance to even the smallest of things. (like what kind of tea to serve someone) Treatment of Chinese immigrants in the 19th century was abhorrent.

TL *Humaning the Best She Can* Thanks for the heads up

Emily A dear retired librarian friend of mine had to put this one down; I guess she is the "sensitive reader" you mention. I, however, think I can handle it. I love Lisa See's writing and hope to read this one soon!

Angela One of my favorite writers since 2007. Been to her book signings in Colorado.

I think this is my 3rd book of hers - she's become an auto-buy for me.

It could almost border on trauma porn - but I think she's telling history and history is often ugly and brutal.
