Setakat ini saya suka. Teringat akan cerpen-cerpen Malgudi karya RK Narayan

Perempuan Gusti was light-hearted and funny, but it totally doesn't prepare you for the novella that comes up next, Samseng, which is... wow. Just wow. So violent, heart-breaking and horrifying. I love it.

My elevator pitch for Transgenik Sifar was "SeaQuest DSV meets Superman". I had difficulty coming up with an elevator pitch for Equilibria but so far I have "Hunger Games meets Escape from New York".

Whoa! Did not expect action-packed scenes. Somebody call Snake Plissken!

What a breath of fresh air this was after reading Di Sebalik Dinara. The author warned me that she wasn't immune to the female gaze either but I see no evidence of it so far. You can tell she's a much more mature writer due to her confidence in the language and that she focuses on mature issues even though the characters are youngsters. Enjoying it so far.

Now for something completely different...

Okay, I'm abandoning this book. Between the multiple failures of the Bechdel test and the sudden heart attack trope stolen from soap operas, I just can't stomach the plot or the characters anymore. Goodbye!

"'Aqram lebih sempurna daripada Alia. Kau tak akan jumpa sebarang cacat cela padanya,' Farisha bercerita sambil menguntum senyuman. Aqram begitu sempurna di matanya." Ok I think Farisha just needs to get laid, stat, so that the rest of us can get on with the story.

So far so good. Ada robot, ada hacking, ada cybernetics. Saya suka tech yang digunakan dan plotnya setakat ini memang seronok, tetapi watak Farisha tu saya rasa macam nak tampar-tampar. Sedarlah wahai perempuan, lelaki perfect 10 biasanya berniat jahat!

Sikit-sikit cakap fasal lelaki kacak. Buku ini memang banyak adegan yang punya teknik "female gaze". Tak salah, ini cuma pemerhatian peribadi sahaja

As a Star Wars book, it's good. As a book, it's terrible.

Totally different reading of history than what I learned in school.

This was the first "proper" paper book I read since I started reading using either the Kindle app on the iPad or my Kindle Touch and I kept wanting to touch the words to define them or to get their pronunciation. It made me feel sad. It also made me want to get the ebook version to continue reading but it's quite expensive. Still mulling it over...

Very Murakami so far.

Slowgoing but I'll get to the end eventually. Faisal's characters are annoying when they're not being didactic and then you realise Malays actually talk like that (when not being didactic).
