I'm always amazed at the story telling of Ian Douglas having read over 20 books of his. This one as usual is starting out STRONG

Fred Hughes is on page 304 of 499 of Foundation and Earth (Foundation, #5)
As the pursuit to find Earth continues our 3 and sometimes 4 heroes are constantly getting into trouble.

The mere mention of Earth sends various planetary people into fits. It si forbidden ! It doesn't exist ! It does exist but it is radioactive, and besides I don't know where it is.

It is as if someone or something has wiped out any information about Earth. Who could have done that so well?

This is turning out to be a great anthology of themed stories. I really haven't run into a bad story yet. A huge cost benefit ration for this large book

Fred Hughes is on page 70 of 521 of A History of the World in 12 Maps
This is a very scholarly look at the topic with multiple references throughout that could send you down many rabbit holes were you to pursue them. This makes the reading "dense". Obviously the Author has done extensive research into the subject; and kudo's to that effort, however it makes the reading very slow.

I'll continue reading it but not sure I will be able to finish it.

Fred Hughes is on page 116 of 368 of Tomorrow's Kin (Yesterday's Kin Trilogy, #1)
The Aliens came and warned of an impending spore cloud reaching Earth. then they left and the spore cloud didn't impact humanity but there were some unexpected complications.

They did leave plans to build a starship but 3 years on there is still not agreement as to whether to do that.

Another impossible asteroid catch for the DSM Boone. Just back from a mission with a fatality the crew isn't really in the mood to go back out again so soon but apparently the asteroid is unique and there is a lot of bonus money being thrown at the captain. So a quick refit and away we go

Well this has turned out to be a fantasy book and not a Science Fiction as noted on the book. However the characters are engaging and the battles and fights etc. are epic. So far so good

Another great chapter in this saga. James S. A. Corey does a fantastic job of building characters and multiple plot line.

So dissappinted that the TV Series was cancelled on cable Tv and now will be carried by Amazon Prime.

A GREAT author(s), story and series

We are heavy into the story now as Mars has decided to come back to Earth. While defeated last time by various Earth based pathogens this time that does not seem to be an issue. The Martians have also evolved so that their war machines are almost immediately activated rather than the 19 hours it took them last time.

London is their target. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!

Where's Tom Cruise when you need him. HaHa

Fred Hughes is on page 208 of 294 of Meltdown: Why Our Systems Fail and What We Can Do About It
Meltdowns have consequences and as we become less connected to what is happening via remote sensors etc we become more vulrenable to mistakes.

How do we fix that problem ?

An interesting read about complexity and the problems it can create. In the "Analogue Age" you could look, touch and see what was happening. Unfortunately in the "Digital Age" we depend on information far removed from our senses and susceptible to error or misinterpretation.

Took this on a trip and didn't get to start reading it until now and I am fully engaged. As a star and a planet prepare to collide everyone goes out to view the rare event.

Some even go to the surface of the doomed planet to explore. BIG MISTAKE. The planet has wildlife and they seem to like eating us humans. Then the planet starts to break up and ...

Fred Hughes is on page 64 of 416 of The Case Against Education: Why the Education System Is a Waste of Time and Money
So far I've learned that the author, a professor, works 5 hours a week, 30 weeks a year and the rest of the time thinks. I also learned that you don't have to pay to attend Princeton you can just show up and attend all the classes for free.

And most importantly that applying for a job and stating you have a degree is a "signaling" process regardless of what the degree is in. Interesting
