I just can’t finish this. I’m not interested in anything about the characters and have to keep backtracking to reread. It’s poorly structured and jumps time periods constantly. That usually doesn’t bother me, but in this case it’s super distracting and chops up the story.

Update: Picked the book up again and am enjoying it more this time around. It's still fairly heavy slogging for me when it comes to the politics (mostly because that's not my wheelhouse), but I'm finding it more interesting as it goes along and I get more familiar with the players.

For me, this is a bit more dense than some of his previous books...maybe because the subject is important to me and I want to understand and not just rush through. It's very thought-provoking, and what it has to say is resonating with me, but it's a lot to unpack. By reading McLaren and others like him, I'm discovering that I'm a Progressive Christian at heart.

75% complete...it reads more like a textbook or informational journal than I had expected.

I don't know if I can finish this book. I read Michelle Obama's Becoming and loved it, and somewhat expected this book to be a similar take on their lives together, but from Mr. Obama's side. I'm now bogged down in dense discussions of political machinations, which are putting me to sleep. I don't know if I'll finish this one.
