This is, in some ways, a hard book to read. It shines a harsh light on how Euro-centric church practices, rituals, etc., are in Christianity and how damaging that is to spreading the gospel, especially among indigenous peoples who have borne the brunt of colonialism in the past.

But it's also a hopeful book, reading the journey of Twiss and hearing how the gospel is taking on new life from a Native perspective

when we separate Jesus from his ideas for an alternative social structure, we inevitably succumb to the temptation to harness Jesus to our ideas—thus conferring upon our human political ideas an assumed divine endorsement.

Wow. Sometimes we forget thar all powerful, miracle wielding Jesus FAILED sometimes to heal or perform miracles... is this proof that God is not all powerful? No... instead we look at Jesus reaction. and actions, his grief and regret, his statements that there are demons and other forces at work. Jesus (and therefore God) is fighting a cosmic war... and in war there are casualties.... and Jesus wept

I know thus chapter was full of hope and good news... but I remember when my mother first came out of the coma... we felt the same...and the unthinkable happened... reading this, I'm reliving those moments, waiting, though, for the other shoe to drop because. .. it seems it always does...
