i began this a while ago as an audiobook because people on tik tok were raving about how great the narration was. then i felt diabolically silly listening to these two people say stupid sexual things in my ears and caught a bit of cringe and stopped.

today, as i was doing something mindless, i decided to come back to this, because as silly it is, the narration is good!

i need josh to be more pathetic, though.

i know the two mcs are both bisexual, but my god, i cannot deal with the straight bullshit they get on with...

guys, this is quite enthralling. the tension between the characters- both sexual and violent- is making me go insane, actually!

ever since the movie and seeing jamie campbell bower atop a motorcycle looking adoringly at lily collins clutching his waist in a teen journal, i was a changed man. i watched that movie and absolutely fell in love with robert sheehan as simon lewis and the fact that there was gay representation. finally, when the tv show came out, brother, i was HOOKED. so this, once and for all, is me getting into the series!

you can clearly see that i have deadlines approaching hence the amount of stuff i'm reading.
it only took me watching a yt vid talking about this series and its tv adaptation (which i loved till the unfortunate s4 ending) and i've picked this up again, ready to immerse myself into this world 🫡

i'm already head over heels for jeremy and jean's dynamic. they're so different but they sorta balance each other out which is amazing when it's done well. which, this, so far is.

at this point, chapters have ended on someone going to sleep that it's quite hilarious. i guess it's the easiest way to close the day off and begin a new chapter with the start of a new day, but basically every chapter ends like that. it's silly!

the first hundred pages were actually quite boring. nothing really happened.
but now though, now shit's getting interesting!

as someone who's never done drugs or drank alcohol, if someone were to trick me into ingesting either, i would fucking go ballistic on their ass.
and the sexual harassment?! from the only overtly gay guy in the group?! who decided this was a good idea? i know all these charas are fucked up but what was the reason for both the queer (assuming about andrew) guys to drug and then kiss neil without his consent?!

welcome back the worst version of ronan lynch (regarding all the characters). this book has far too many characters and all of them are incredibly edgy.
fancasts of andrew and aaron is just lucky blue smith, aka nara smith the tt tradwife's bigoted mormon model husband, and i already knew i was in for a wild ride...
i saw some fanart on tt and found the audiobook on spotify, so when better to start than now.

this is such a fascinating story! i've laughed out loud and been extremely concerned, so i think it's turning out to be a very good book indeed.

the pacing is so fractured at times that it feels like i'm reading different stories of the inhabitants of the same town sometimes...but i am enjoying it, actually! i like the audiobook and how the transcriptions of om's sessions are narrated by different people than greta's narrator. it's really fun!
it's quite a bizarre story, tho. there's so much happening. but i'm glad greta and flavia have finally met!!

found this at my local library, so of course i had to see what all the fuss was about.
currently, it's pretty easy to read without being dumb, which is good.

as someone not particularly into straight romances, especially ones where sexual topics are brought up really quickly, that's one thing i'm not the biggest fan of so far. but i like miles, so we'll see...

i can see the appeal of this book, because the writing is so approachable. i'll see how i feel about it the more i read on...

dad brought this for me from an airport a long tjme ago and i finally want to get it over with. i feel like i spoiled myself by looking at how many sections this book has and one was named after what i fear is the big thing that happens. but it sorta is implied in the earlier chapters with all the flashbacks anyway. i'm making good progress, so i can get through it.
it seems gat is the only decent character.

i'm kinda tired of the war talk, but i suppose i'll sit through anything just to be with these little characters a while longer. i also really really adore the magic system of this series, but that's already old news.
i'm actually enjoying nina's story a whole lot, so i'm always excited to see her name on a chapter header because it'll mean i'll get to spend more time with her and hanne.

people will come up with the most bizarre book concept imaginable just to write their little litfic book about messy strange white women…
i just wish trans people and poc had weird stories like these written about them. these white ladies going through weird shit is starting to grate on me a bit.

it’s so funny coming back to this after my iwtv mania during the summer and not remembering what’s happening, just knowing that when there was a lot of love for this in my heart, i highlighted so many quotes and made soooo many notes.

i can’t lie, this series has some fascinating lore.

the fact that this is the written word makes it all so much more harrowing, because the mind is a scary place and having to rely on one's imagination for something so viscerally disgusting was a really difficult thing to do...

i don't know how i would have lived my life as someone with ocd, particularly, intrusive thoughts and medical anxiety, if i had read this sooner, holy shit.

as for the characters, i haven't read ya in a while, so i've missed teens written by millennials quite a bit. the characters are all that special way of annoying that is almost endearing. but like, no teen talks like that. but that is okay.

i missed grishaverse so i decided to try reading this again after my many tries, and god how glad i am that i did.
i do miss my dear crows, but at least we have nina. she also sometimes refers to inej, kaz or jesper by name. those are the times my heart soars.
i like the other pov charas, too, don't get me wrong!
i really hope nina gets the girl. it'll be a bit weird because of who her father is, but still 🙏

okaaaayyy, i’ll admit, it’s growing on me…
i can’t wait for the characters to finally be in the same place together and get to work together. now we have euyn and mikail, and sora and tiyung all in rahway, so we’re just missing aeri and royo to appear.
it’s a bit too tame in the fantasy aspect somehow, but we’ll see…
