So good. I marvel at it as I'm reading.

Has anyone read this book? If so, I want to talk to you. I feel like it's one of the strangest books I've ever read but I can't quite pin down why.

That thing where a book is phenomenally well written but its universe is so bleak you have a hard time pushing through to the end. Been holding on to this one so long the library thinks I stole it...

I picked this up on a whim at the library. Short fiction at its best. If you like thoughtful, beautifully written, surprising portraits of family life, relationships, coming of age stories, etc., this is must read fiction. Having just finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, I'm reminded of the more eloquent (read: less comical) passages from Junot Diaz (and the incisive, female perspective of Lorrie Moore).

So far this book is shaping up to be one everybody should read. I expected it to be way nerdier (read: hard to follow) than it is. Delightfully surprised!

A slow descent into the meaning of life.

Gets better with every page.
