Interesting, the tone of Pynchon is like a giant Dead Head with a PHD in metaphysical quantum theory, a Masters in World History, and a major in political science, with a minor in English Lit, is writing a novel.

But it feels like home for someone whose read and enjoyed Pynchon before.

Just got done with the Part about Fate: It felt more realistic, but more mundane, almost like a prelude before the storm that is Part4. There were several passage that felt like the chaos I was use too, but more centered and structured than the pervious Part. I'm excited for the Part about the Crimes. What life and existence will unfold for me!!!

Finished the first section of 2666 (the part about the critics). I take back what I've said about Bolano. I thought he was a waste of printed paper a few years back. But what he actually is is a man who requires effort and patience. The first part seems to be a light intro, he enters the mind of fans looking for answers but never asking the right questions. Like why is finding other more important than self.

Just finished part one. Wow! I've never read a book so drenched in culture and anti-culture and it spins, whirls, and when you look up you forget and don't want to be where you are. In my head this this is how you write culture. It reminds me of a hybrid of Pynchon, with it's dense stream of consciousness forming around ideas, objects, and people; and Garcia Marquez, with is magical elements of the fantastic.
