I need help. There are many interesting sentences and moments here, but the repetition of "self-absorbed and charismatic religious leader uses debasing/powerful rituals to bind his followers to him" happens at ends of too many chapters. I've come to dread it.

Each story has its own flavor, which is how I like my short story collections. Yum.

I'm on the page labeled 572, 420 according to Goodreads. It's riveting. I couldn't finish by the due date, so I grudgingly returned it so that the next person in line could have a chance. But wait! The librarian was sympathetic, and she immediately put the book back in the system so that I could re-enter the online queue! Then, the library bought more books, and my 2nd turn came up two days later! Yay!

Ok, yeah, so I'm rereading. Leave me alone. I need this book right now.

I want to quit my job to read this book full-time.

I'm savoring the final pages. This novel is changing my life.

I should have known from the title what I was getting into, but I really didn't. This is a series of novels in conversation with the arts over time. A writer, speaking of and to all other writers and readers. Can't stop. Won't stop. I'll listen...and reply.

...did not know the stories about Panthera being the father of Jesus....

Just started. Almost done. It's usually like that with Jenny Offill. Sigh. I don't want it to be over.

I think I'll stay up for this one. Thrilling characterization and plot--in just 29 pages.
