1) Chromosomes (XX vs XY) are not the biological definition of sex. The biological definition of sex is whether the morph produces macrogametes or microgametes
2) You could make a good case that the medical definition of sex is shape of genitalia, given that sex assignment of infants largely occurs in a medical context

It's interesting how something that was glossed over in the previous book became built/expanded into the larger narrative here.

It's interesting how his series has slipped into a more "normal" space opera as we've gone on, especially with REVENANT GUN. How often has something like Hemiola's 'real life is not like the dramas' realization popped up before?

Similarly, I figured something similar with Dhanneth; except I was thinking Jedao had been in the previous swarm leader's body, not that their previous swarm leader had been psych surgeried to make space for Jedao

The metallic aftertaste has got to be a side effect of the revenant process that Kujen won't be happy about (unless needing to taste *something* is inherently valuable to him). Dunno if the expanded proprioception was intentionally put in or is another side effect

Interesting development. So that explains what happened to Inesser's slice of the Protectorate. (I wish we could have seen what Brezan had told the students, anyway). And I think we're confirmed that Jedao is in (a clone of?) his own body; I was wondering if Kujen had stuffed Jedao in the old general - who might have been Inesser.

Interesting that, according to the wikipedia page, Tiptree deliberate gave this story a male narrator. I didn't read the narration as male until the twist at the end - which might be a result of this story's influence.
