There are characters who you want to protect, and then there are characters who you want to be protected by.

I like books that feel dominating.

I love this one particular story in this sci-fi collection so far: A VERY ORDINARY MARRIAGE and it does centre a marriage that you wish would've been very ordinary.

what is better than when a book has multiple povs and you love them all—especially when one is of someone antagonistic.

It feels so good to read a book promised as a hilarious cozy romantasy and delivering exactly that!

The world is dark, with death at the centre of it all, but I feel the romance is slightly more trope-focused than I'd expected so it seems like most dialogues are being exchanged to tick off tropes. I hope the last leg of the story impresses me enough to not care about this.

This book is consistently giving me truths to think about, like this one: love, combined with faith, makes even the greatest humiliation seem like a noble sacrifice.

I love when stories show women with starkly different personalities converging through the pains and wonders of womanhood.

This is going to be one of the best of this year. For this particular book, I'm suffering through that urge to read yet not read because I don't want it to finish.

Flying through this book; it's ardently both romantic and gothic, but also very light to read...which is something that might be both good and not-so-good.

Only seven chapters in and this is one of the strongest openings I've read in recent times; the epic-ness is felt through rituals, power structures, and wild ambitions.

The arranged marriage made as a deal is one of my favourite tropes but this is slightly underwhelming because I expected more angst and tension.

I knew this was inspired by Beauty and the Beast but I wanted to see how it would set up that inspiration, and I like how it brought the fairy tale's essence through a "deal with the demon" trope. The romance is only just beginning, which makes me want to also appreciate how Lim always writes such wonderful character introductions, especially spending enough time to establish Tru, the mc.

Just four stories in; I'm intrigued and impressed.

The way every character in this story left their mark, I'm so impressed.

This book reads like a movie —in an excellent way.

The writing here is so magical, it's reminding me of one of my favourite reads of 2023 (The Last Tale of the Flower Bride, Roshani Chokshi) & of 2022 (Only a Monster, Vanessa Len) because they made me feel so immersed too. Exciting!

I must always appreciate when a prologue impresses me, for it's such a shamed entity.

THE DISASTER WEDDING is a celebration of a curse that proves itself to be a magical blessing when a surprising understanding and unexpected feelings bloom between the bride's sister & the groom's brother while they solve problems in this chaotic wedding.

Pretty fine.

Okay, I was judging this book a little too harshly. Especially for a debut, this was quite solid.

I'm always disappointed when a mystery rushes towards the end. Instead of pulling me in more, it actually diffuses the tension that massively builds up halfway through. Bad pacing overrides a good plot.

Genre deviation. This is less of a mystery or a suspense thriller. It's broadly a drama with many secrets and a murder that surprises—might change my opinion during the second half, let's see.

Almost halfway through this book and I can confidently reiterate my opinion: there can never be enough fantasy books with dragons.

There's a curiosity about the package, and a nod-worthy humorous undertone in the narration.

I'm obsessed. Someone take this book away from me so I can get some work done. Also, it's out today and I think you should definitely pick it up if you want something mind blowing & addictive.

Big books are both the best and the worst. You'd be reading for an hour, totally immersed in the lyrical writing and the enchanting world —having a great reading experience— only to see you've read a thousand pages but are still at chapter eleven.

Anyway, I'm loving this one.

Historical fiction that spans decades and deeply explores the pain of past while also celebrating a thread of hope and dreams passing down generations is the perfect mix of heartbreaking truth and heartwarming sentiments.

enjoying this debut fantasy so much for the murderous siren who cares deeply for her sister in a prejudiced world, the swoony prince who is basically a cinnamon roll, and the forbidden romance.

haven't found a favourite yet but the four i've read till now are good.
