Very interesting read. This book is largely a history of ideas revolving around the authors definition of worldview. Tracing from Rome to Home, the author sometimes takes angles on issues that I have not always seen seen other authors take. It would have been great if the author included some sort of apparatus of sources as either foot notes or end notes. This makes it difficult to do additional independent research.

Having read "Christian Worldview" and "Worldview and Personality" along with some other Bavinck volumes prior to this, I was struck by how Bavinck now works out a system that doesn't feel mechanical or merely antagonistic to the field of knowledge, but he is able to finely parse along lines of distinction in a field of study to show the folly in certain unchristian starting places. Presup (anachronism) as its finest

DENSE read, but with a dictionary or a little AI assistance, his argument has been clear and compelling so far. I was struck by how Murray gets at the relationship between Christ's atonement and the levitical religious life as the picture is painted for us in the OT: "the Levitical sacrifices were patterned after the heavenly exemplar." On one hand, this is the book of Hebrews in brief, but this is a profound line.

Has been a fairly straightforward presentation of the concept of worldview as it has been broadly received since Francis Schaeffer. More cerebrally focused (that is more narrowly focused on thought trends). Aspects of the work seem to be overly simplistic examinations of complex topics at times, even as it pertains to the idea of "worldview" itself. So far I, would recommend as a primer with supplemental reading.

Bavinck seeks to put the “uni” back in university by way of historical, theological, and methodological assessment of the sciences as he saw them. He takes on unbelieving science and the influence of positivism (which actually worked to undermine the scientific endeavor). There is no “presupposition-less science” according to Bavinck.

Top ideas covered as of late:
1. Co-equal co-heirs
2. Indispensable servant leadership
3. Household priests
4. Give and take decision making ("Soft Patriarchs")

Her conversation on headship/submission is underwhelming (neither clearly defined or well argued from scripture). This chapter is mainly a overview of broad evangelical consensus views of fatherhood. Beyond that, solid chapter!

Great and encouraging read. Her noble goal to vindicate the name of the Christian gentleman in the family and in society.

Chapters 1 and 2 outline the prevailing cultural narrative and set the stage recognizing the virtue of Christianity

Chapter 3 introduces servant leadership and mutual submission. She sidesteps some key verses on the doctrine of male headship and somewhat makes a faulty egalitarian case.
