Hesitant at this point, as I am
not really certain that my favourite fictional heroine, the one and only Sheilagh Fielding, is in need of a swan song. I hope that I am not disappointed.

Leery after this last outing, I am already pacing myself after the opening pages, for fear of devouring it in one foul swoop. THIS is why I read John Boyne.

While the lyrical cadence isn't as strong as I would like, it is an Irish writer, writing about Ireland, I am more than intrigued with the somewhat dark, somber, even morose storyline. The Forest has always been a place of refuge and safety for me as I think it might be too for lead character Mahoney, as he unravels the mystery surrounding his life story and that of his Mother.

It's hard leaving a favourite book behind (The Lizard Cage) but in fairness to the author this is what I need to do. I am quite fond of the main character already - seems like I might be looking into the life of a real person. I wish to steer clear of the ubiquitous 'is this truly fiction?' question that I find to be so frustrating.
