I have been looking forward to this for so long - here we go!

Seeing Ferrus and Fulgrim as friends is painful. Sad times are to be had here.

About 1/3 of this book is absolutely perfect, inspiring and ticking all of my boxes. Another 1/3 is quite good, enjoyable and creative enough. The last 1/3, however, is so dry and dull and tiresome that it weighs the rest of this considerable novel down by a not inconsiderable amount.

Goodreads has been without interface or UI improvements for over 10 years at this point, despite being owed by Amazon. It's barely had any quality of life updates and hasn't listened to any feedback from it huge pool of users - but at last we see a change! We get proof that someone is behind the wheel...

And the change? It's ADS.

It's time for me to commit to a good ol' paper reading journal, because fuck this.

It's been about 20 years since I first read this and I've been wanting to reread it almost every since, as well as finally continue with the series.

I've read all the Hainish stories, a huge swath of her essays, a few of her standalone novels and one collection of her poetry... It really is about time for me to revisit her most well-known world.

Seeing a Chaos Marines, a champion of the Emperor's Children no less, in amongst all these very human characters is utterly terrifying. The marks of chaos and their influence over the minds of mortals is written so well.
