I am about 100 pages from being done with this book, but I feel safe in saying I've found a new favorite author. Brooks's writing is so skillful, so painterly, with a depth of historical information as well as incredible characterization, I am simply blown away.

I don't much think about horses. But this book has teared me up more times than I can count now.

loving this so far

I want to like this book, I really do. But its just not clicking. I will finally start to become engaged when Azar starts talking about specific authors and books, but then diverts to her father again, or other random bits and pieces about their life. Which is fine, but the combo is making me feel super distracted and uninterested. I wanted more of a deeper read into these authors and themes.

This book has been the best thing I've read in sooo long. For such a short, compact tome, it packs so much beautiful writing, atmosphere, emotion and story into these sparse pages. It has the feeling and heart of angry, strong women from Circe combined with the atmosphere and similar setting to The North Water.

The sadness is profound and I feel it in my body and heart. So glad I bought this book to own.

the further along this goes, the more I dislike the story, the writing, the characters.

so bored so far....need to finish it for May's book group, but I am so uninterested.

Why haven't I read this sooner? This was the dose of humor I needed in my life. The chapter on peoples' awkward encounters and social errors had me dying.

Reading the final 1/4 of the book at work, and I need to stop now before the floodgates open.

I am really enjoying this book so much. I have very little prior knowledge of the stories and myths of the gods, so this is al new for me. I also really like stories where the protagonist is the underdog who is ill abused, mistreated and underestimated, so the story of Circe is right up my alley, although it is also making me incredibly mad for her.

I don't want this book to end! I love Lillian. I love the fire children. So glad I finally picked this book up.
