this doesn’t sound right, but i guess it is? i just checked the OED and also the date of the invention of the telephone—1877ish– so like. i guess it is plausible. i don’t know why this is the one thing to bother me. 😭😭😭

apparently in this alternate history of england oysters are now considered a delicacy 80 years before they actually were. maybe the fairy queen was a big fan of them and changed their public perception?

or more likely, there is zero effort involved in making this book historically plausible lmao

absolutely killing me how it seems the author has ctrl-f replaced “old” with “auld” for the Scottish Feel™️ (but results in mistakes like the american main character saying “aulder”)

in england they call stuff prawns when an american would call it a shrimp. the supposedly english main character in this book is talking about shrimp when she should be saying prawn. american author confirmed

also nothing else is remotely english about this setting but that’s fine i guess
