the year in this book is 1880-something or other. i had to pause the book because characters have just exchanged “Hello” as a greeting.

this doesn’t sound right, but i guess it is? i just checked the OED and also the date of the invention of the telephone—1877ish– so like. i guess it is plausible. i don’t know why this is the one thing to bother me. 😭😭😭
