This is a hard, really engrossing read. seems like after the halfway point, the book will be mostly aftermath, which is such a smart choice. I could be wrong, of course. Sense of time and cultural moment is really tangible in the setting, and I think the author is deft w/ it (pop culture referenced SO EASILY become heavy-handed. Vanessa’s relationship with her mom is AHHHHH. 9/11 as the cleave point… also AHHHH

wow, i REALLY hate something about how this author writes sexual threat. It’s maybe on-the-nose in a way that feels cartoony? while still depicting something despicable? and finally in a way that feels commercial rather than literary, which is the least of my complaints but what i mean to express is i don’t have a weak stomach but i canNOT stand something ugly depicted in a way both salacious and hollow
