I like Emma Straubs writing style and the plot on this is perfect. Character is well formed and themes align well for the story development. I’m excited to see where this one goes.

I wish I wouldn’t have read King of Ashes recently cause I’m comparing them and this one isn’t as good, but it’s still good. Hella violent as usual tho so I’m not sure I’m in the mood but it’s a book club pick

Very defined characters

I listened to this as I stripped my mirror of paint and I think the fumes didn’t allow me to follow 100% but I got the gist so far. However I’m worried I didn’t follow as closely as needed to get the depths of this novel in the beginning that’s needed. Guess we will find out

Multiple POV and Danika is a BITCH but there’s moments I get where she’s coming from.

As someone who lives in Minnesota, especially the West Metro, this book has been very fun. The writing style at first seemed plain language, not very sophisticated. But as it’s progressed it’s gotten better and the story keeps evolving. It’s very juicy

Being this far into the book I thought I’d feel more plot but I do like the characters. It doesn’t feel like a character-led novel tho so it kinda throws me off.. you ever reading like what’s supposed to be going on? But you also know what’s going on. Hard to describe lol

I’m enjoying the characters. Plot is there but not riveting but I have a feeling it’s going to come together and take off and be exciting

So I am interested in how its all pieced together but nothing has me invested besides that. Like the characters I have no opinions of.

Why am I so obsessed with this novel?! Delicious. I bet I’ll be done by Monday evening for sure.

How this book continues to evolve with the plot and how a lot of larger topics and themes are being discussed though the plot and writing is nothing short of genius. This book wows me

I cannot believe I’ve read almost half this book in four days but also it shows my level of obsession with this character and plot and the satirical nature is on point.

I really enjoy books like this. It has this specific formula and I just eat it up.

Oh shit! This is getting juicy. Due to listening on audiobook sometimes my brain disengages for a second but now I’m mad at myself because this story is bomb! I can always re-read sometime.

Slow-ish start. Nothing super compelling but I also don’t hate it. Seems like a dry character but I think she’ll develop a lot and I’m invested in her academic side find that’s distracting her from her dissertation… and also how often she has an antacid. Tummy issue girlies unite!

So a mystery happened… only took almost half the book. I’ll finish but this isn’t anything special but now I’m curious !

Having to ask a cat how to use foot buffs and a cuticle trimmer is hilarious.
I’m so thankful I went outside my comfort zone and picked up this book

This is one of those books where you can assume the authors led a more wealthy and privileged life. Which, I’m fine with that and with books I can’t always relate to but when she conceptualizes a character from the Midwest specifically Minneapolis, and starts saying they can’t know what loss is like and other things… rage baiting for me. I almost stopped listening. But I’m enduring.
