I thought it very odd that a man was the editor of a true crime anthology about women who kill, but then he dropped in a classic “I couldn’t help but wonder.” So now that I’ve realized he’s actually Carrie Bradshaw at heart, I’m willing to overlook the man thing.

I say this with deep, deep love for one of the source texts of my being: Just because it involves a boat, does not mean you must reference Moby Dick. It’s like the author is throwing this in to try to get a higher rating from me. I’d suggest writing a better book.

“The birds looked different in Afghanistan—like skunks with wings.” No they did not. The birds didn’t do 9/11. Please relax. He later says he was ashamed of the ignorance and anger he carried when he arrived there. Are you? Because it’s 22 years later and you’re writing that the birds are essentially skunks.
