Wow, I hated every word of this book. Amazing.

Trying to trust Akwaeke but this is torture. My biggest issue with books like this is someone has to behave out of character for the romance to succeed. Either the father, who is loving and doting on his son, has to say fuck it I don't care if my son hates me. Or the son has to shrug and give his blessing even though he's clearly head over heels with this girl. All I really ask from romance is that it makes sense lol

Most of the Dupree women are downright awful people but Tati's storyline is definitely the weirdest. How many times do they have to say the sperm donor doesn't want her before she gets it through her head?

Finally over but not sure how to rate this. Which always happens for anticipated reads that fall flat. I'm not upset at the character development or plot but it's how they develop that doesn't make sense. There was almost no emotional work between Kidan and Yos but there was plenty between Kidan and her friends. So the author is capable of writing proper development over time but chose not to with the MCs?

Okay this is getting kinda stupid. Actually it's been that way for awhile now. Kidan doesn't even love herself but she wants to force a violent existence on someone that she knows would 1000% hate it. And her justification is that she'll teach them how to love themselves. How about we work on ourselves first stinkabutt.

If you write 250 pages of a man being awful to a woman than write 250 pages of them making up. Instead we get 2 pages of a very sketchy bargain after he almost DROWNED her and now he's randomly saying he can teach her how to love herself. How bout I teach you about a stake to the heart? Dark romantasy but the dark parts are how the MC treats the FMC and there's no romance at all. Wish this was more plot heavy

Loving how ruthless the FMC is and I need her to keep this same energy throughout the series. Especially the "all evil must die" thing she's got going on

Dnf @ 22%. Confirmed: I'm NOT a dark romance girlie. MMC is a sex trafficker. He said being forced into prostitution would be a reward, not a punishment. This book is so out of touch.

"My heart is wet for him" is an actual sentence the author wrote down and decided to publish. If it wasn't for the sugar plum fairy and Clara I would've dnf'd a long time ago. I hate that some of the best ideas for a story goes to some of the worst writers.

Went into this with very low expectations so I'm able to enjoy the book for what it is. However, the nutcracker (LI) called an FMC a slut (derogatory not sexual). That would be enough for me to dnf but I do like the sugar plum fairy and Clara. Nutcracker has to do some severe grovelling to be redeemed and maybe not even than tbh.

I'm trying to trust Claire because she's never led me astray before but the plot of this book is so stupid. Might come back to it later

The FMC is tragic. She's fallen/fainted like 4 times already and can't put a sentence together to save her life. Plus no one with her severe level of issues would accept a public facing role (or have such a public facing company).

I've cried multiple times reading this because of how awful it is. I'm devastated. Been waiting all year for this book. I can feel a reading slump coming on because I don't want to be this disappointed again. However I can see why people who mainly read romance would enjoy it.

I feel like romantasy (& romance) authors want a lot of sex in their books so they make that happen even if it goes against the plot. Because in what world would you be willingly having sex with the man who had a large hand in the death of your father and court (which included some children) a day after they were murdered with no apology or resolution of that at all? Just recapping that sounds insane to me

At this point I'm on my knees begging authors to stop writing dual pov romance/fantasy romance. I don't need to know he's willing to crack anything that moves

I actually just can't get over his outfit. They're literally in the shower getting steamy and all I can think is "a blazer and sandals". Why? If it's chilly enough for outerwear why wear sandals? I know he looked goofy af. Why have sex with someone who dresses like that? Why would the author dress him like this and ruin the story for me?
