Much of this is going over my head, but I picked it up to learn a bit about internal family systems and a in that regard, it’s been a success so far.

Having to take my time digesting this one because of how (and I’m not trying to be funny) genuinely unsettling it is. So far (3 chapters in) I’m feeling the way I felt reading DeGraff’s Affluenza and the consumerism section of Sapiens, uneasy familiarity. I hope Berry has some realistic ideas on a cultural changing of course, because I, although generally the optimist, don’t.

Enjoying this more and more. I’ve especially enjoyed the discussions on religion (although I’m not totally sold on his redefinition of religion, it makes for a very interesting discussion) and capitalism (which was much more balanced than I expected). The highlighting of non-sapiens homo species in the beginning was also fascinating.

Really getting into this now. I’ve especially enjoyed the discussion of how the US government during the Cold War tried to balance the maintenance of racial discrimination at home and the brand of freedom being sold abroad, obviously at odds with one another. Hadn’t considered any of that previously.

Started out pretty dry but it’s gotten better as it progresses through time. Incredibly well researched.

Old man goes on long camping trip, thinks a lot.
Quite dense in places, but I’m enjoying the more practical accounts of his experience at Walden. I’m definitely missing out on a lot by listening to the book rather than reading, but I’m not sure it could hold me attention well enough to be read.
