I checked this out on impulse while renewing my library card. An interesting and entertaining read— I can hear Stewart’s voice in my head.

Making It So

Paula is starting The Falcon's Flight: A novel of Anne Boleyn (The Falcon's Rise Book 2)
I’ve returned the book for now. The first one was more novel and less historical than I wanted, although the writing wasn’t bad.

Is this a parody? Is this an epic? Is this kinky erotica with a 7-year-old as a central character? Is it somehow related to our world, or is the author just too lazy to make up her own names for people and concepts, so she just steals a few from random parts of of our world and mythologies and sprinkles in alternate spellings? Is this actually an extended drug dream? Could we have some sort of exposition?

A mix of science, history and personal recollections. Ran out of time, but I have it on hold.

Fascinating book although a bit less than smoothly written. I had to return it to the library, but I’ll get back to it.

Interesting, only mildly cynical historical fantasy.

Very informative. It seems to be a systematic, footnoted listing of clues found in literary and archaeological sources, which would make it boring reading except that I keep saying, “ah-ha!” and “Oh, really? Hmmm...” to myself. There are references to the Chaldean Oracles but nothing in depth so far.

I can’t finish this. I don’t think the author researched anything before writing the book, I think he skimmed Clan of the Cave Bear and then got high.

The plot bogged down, the jarring misuse of language piled up, and based on the lack of attention to detail I don’t trust that the author did any research. I’m done.

Well, the plot seems to move along well, but he uses some jarringly anachronistic turns of phrase, is a bit sloppy about plants, and... if he uses the word “prong” for one more thing, I may spurt... and not in a good way.

Well-written, meticulously documented (much of the book is taken up by notes), with an infuriating and depressing subject. I’m setting it aside.

The explanation of how viruses work should be in high school biology curriculums everywhere. Instead I remember trying to memorize the Krebs cycle.
