The Dead Cat Tail Assassins
world setting is detailed but not deep. dialogue is jarringly anachronistic. prose favors telling over showing and treats the reader like a child. story seems fine so far.

The Blade Itself (The First Law, #1)
2-D characters with constant internal monologue, tiresome expositional dialogue... not sure why this has gotten so much praise. Going to try to power through given the number of recommendations, but I'm not feeling hopeful.

Einstein’s Dreams
Not bad, but more interesting as a journaling exercise/invitation to a thought experiment than any real depth of philosophy.

Sufficiently Advanced Magic (Arcane Ascension, #1)
Main character has social anxiety like a duller, less funny Murderbot. The book’s logic is inconsistent and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense (though perhaps this changes in a grand reveal later). The author treats his readers as dumb: a whole lot of telling and not showing. There’s internal monologue which is just awful. It’s shaping up to be a boring dungeon crawl- not at all what rave reviews had claimed.

The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph
Repetitive, obvious, and vaguely insulting, with some quotable moments (though not his quotes). You’re significantly better off with the source texts, if you can spare the time.

Maxwell’s Demon was great. Byzantine Empathy hit me at a particularly compelling time. They’re all really good so far.

Priest (Ratcatchers #1)
Overwritten. Badly in need of a content editor. DNF.

This might be as quality as Sanderson or Josiah Bancroft. Maybe more so. I haven’t been this excited by/about a writer in a long, long time.
