Kaesa is 20% done with Mystical Stitches: Embroidery for Personal Empowerment and Magical Embellishment
"For fine detail work [...] split the embroidery thread down to two or three strands."

for context most of the example patterns are stitched with ALL SIX STRANDS AT ONCE.

I admit I mostly got this off of hoopla because google ads were pushing it REALLY hard for a while there but when I looked at the previews the actual stitchwork was weirdly ... crunchy? (not in a granola way. in a .jpg way.) and my skim of the techniques sections have not left me impressed. My main issue is all the reviews say it's a good beginner's book. It's not. But I'm gonna actually read & give it a chance.

Is this a weird choice for me? Yes. Is it a weird book generally? Also yes.

I'm doing a reading challenge set up kind of like an RPG, and you read books for each aspect of character creation, and my character's in the druid/nature magic guild, so she gets an animal companion. It can be any medium/small animal but it has to be on the book cover.

There are *so few* adult books with opossums on the cover.

I'm not enjoying this one. I assume Rachel Learns A Lesson about being superficial and complacent in her racism/classism but it's also hitting me in places that sting. She reminds me so much of the girls who made my grade school & hs years hellish, & whenever a fat person exists on-page, everything stops to showcase how gross they are. Andy's fine but I've met Rachels , I hate her, & I don't want good things for her.

Do you like whimsical fantasy adventure? You should read this. Do you hate whimsy? You should AVOID this at all costs. But I'm enjoying it.

I'm really enjoying this book. Even though I accidentally stumbled across some fic-relevant facts about the history of herpetology which I have been hunting for for about a year, and just gave up on finding, and now have to rewrite a scene. Worth it.

Congrats, Goodreads, you figured out how to make me want to use your stupid app, by not loading half the things that are supposed to be on individual book pages.

Unless something goes very wrong in the next 40 pages I think this one's going on my favorites shelf.
