just a few pages in but reminded immensely of why i love Agamben so much, as readable as he is thorough! so far highly enjoying his descriptions of monk garments and the different types of monks (cenobite/anchorite/sarabite/itinerants)

"A spider was lowering itself from the ceiling on an invisible thread. The poor thing, emaciated now because there are practically no flies left this time of year. He's been living with me like this since the spring. I have made his hunting easier. We have become friends out of necessity. For some reason he has no colleagues, and mine have expired."

my fave genre. love it already

Ethan is 10% done with The Posthuman
i dont remember where i left this book, its been two years (?) since i started reading it and if memory is correct, about 20 pages might be sunken somewhere in my unconscious. more likely none at all. i would like to finish it if i can find it, so i am keeping it in my "currently reading" because i am bullheaded.. it might never leave.

in attempt to convey the popular views of muslim society of the 17th century, the author nonetheless paints himself as islamophobic, and, instead of focusing on how despotic regimes use religion as a further tool of control, went off on a long comparative essay on islam and christianity?? maybe i am missing the point of this part of the book.

introduction: are we active narrators of our own lives, or do we merely adjust, create meaning within the dominant force of history? does capitalism/western imperialism dictate our human narrative?

an economy of jouissance "All the wealth the country contains flows towards the despotic City, which will swallow it up in its centre, from where it will never emerge. This is an absurd economy, its only goal the /jouissance/ of the One, not the country's enrichment; its principle is /coupure/, the cutting-off of all that circulates (blood, merchandise, currency)."

"My effort [with this books] is, in other words, not to "resist" the text from the outside but rather to seek to trace within each text its own resistance to itself, its own specific literary, inadvertent textual transgression of its male assumptions and prescriptions."
