in attempt to convey the popular views of muslim society of the 17th century, the author nonetheless paints himself as islamophobic, and, instead of focusing on how despotic regimes use religion as a further tool of control, went off on a long comparative essay on islam and christianity?? maybe i am missing the point of this part of the book.
