2 rough reads in a row. 2.5-3.5 stars, depending on the part being read.

There were so many parts of this book that drew me in and interested me, but connecting them all felt forced. I’m fascinated by the dust bowl and the plight of the Native Americans during that time, Antonia’s story of the home for unwed mothers, even the photographers of the period and Harp’s polish father’s story, but it just was hard to bring it all together. Throwing in magical realism made it very odd.

What a weird book. I can say that I wish I had not used my time on this one. I didn’t hate it but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The ending was disjointed and unsatisfying. Meh 2.5

I am struggling to read this book. It’s not bad but it leaves me feeling unsettled. I think I’m just ready for it to be over.

I liked this one as well, but not as much as vol 4 & 5. Not sure how I feel about the ending. I could see it coming, but not sure it will work.

I loved this book! At times it there were a few parts that didn’t pull together right away, but it was sweet and Fred was such a kind character.

I finished this book but honestly have to sleep on it before I can rate it. Did I like it? Yes, I think, but it was definitely strange. Did I dislike it, yes, I think but it was also fascinating and different. I can’t say what left me unsettled with this book but it felt very cringy, and brain washy way before the twists.

This book was so interesting to me. So many questions were asked that were never answered because the main character just didn’t know. The general feeling while reading reminded me of The Road or Silo. I really enjoyed it.

I’ve quickly come to look forward to listening to this series! I can’t wait to know more about Pierce and Islington. Will cousin Archibald be up and about in the next book?

This is such a light hearted, easy read series. I’m really enjoying getting to know Emma more in this volume and want to know more about the tenant.

Warning on the format- little punctuation in the dialogue makes it a bit hard to read.

This was a birthday gift from a dear friend and such a sweet story. It’s such an endearing way to come to later life. Everyone needs a Louis to talk with at night. The ending surprised me.

I read the first book in this series a few years ago and remember thinking it was ok. I was hoping this was better than it was. Similar format but on a train. Not sure I would bother with the third but I’ve said that before about a series.

Not a bad book, not one that will be in my top ten for the year. I liked Carrie’s father and boyfriend. She was annoying at times, but Nikki was more annoying.

I remember loving The Kitchen House so I was excited to pick this up. It’s been so long and I had a hard time remembering the characters from the last book, but the tie in doesn’t make it extremely necessary. I did enjoy the characters in this book, especially Robert, but not so much Adelaide.

This book, which took place in Ohio, was on my to read list for a long time. I finally picked it up, but it was very heavy and hard to read before going to sleep. The content included pedophiles exploiting their own children, but it was also a great story of helping others.

The premise of this book always caught my attention for years, but the length of it kept putting me off for some reason. I finally decided to listen to it while working in my garden and I’m so glad that I did so many beautiful ideas about nature discussed and taught.

While overall I had good feelings about this book, parts were annoying- most specifically Grace. I couldn’t get a feel for her age. It felt like 3 separate stories interconnected but pushed together and not one extremely well developed. I listened to this one and didn’t love the baby voice the narrator sometimes used. 3.5 ⭐️

I liked this book but it was a bit hard to follow at times with so many Hugh Fishers, lovers, wives, fiancés, pregnancies, and jumping back and forth in decades. I would say 3.5 ⭐️.
