well this just got a lot bigger than i thought! truly insane world building

the choice to have one pov be second person is wild but it’s so well done i stop noticing?? curious to see the reason why essun is so different from the other two and their third person

impeccable vibes

previous book was so heavy that i'm already loving the refreshing and lighter narrative style of this one!! such a cool concept as well, civil war times zombies :D (don't think i've really read any zombie books, just watched zombie movies)

i’m vibing way more with this pace! however i am struggling a bit with this 7 year time jump (yea kids but still). the years in the chapters are a nice touch and i would love to track with that but i’m too head empty … also ik they’re killing people but i draw the line at cheating fr,, what were y’all doing

i'm invested in the world (which i sure hope so with the time investment in these tomes) but i just feel like i'm missing some crucial emotional connection with the characters. maybe it's the writing style but i don't really feel like the POV voices change very much and events are just being reported objectively

fullmetal alchemist vibes

so much political intrigue and backstabbing. but its really interesting getting more pov characters to flesh out the stories and kind of make you root for the other sides!!

i love that they included someone that's korean (and like hey, i'm in korea rn!) but the pronunciation of ajumma just now in the audiobook killed me. in retrospect it wasn't that bad but the american urge to pronounce things with the second syllable stressed is unavoidable (i am also guilty of this)

yknow the authors really took the “make anything that can go wrong go wrong” thing very seriously. i feel like they upped the spunk in this book particularly with scarlett (tho i do forget tyler is supposed to be a prim and proper dude with the amount of sass he has). anyway this would make an epic animated series

ok these characters have spunk! i’m curious to see if there are lingual differences after 200 years. i mean imagine talking to someone from the 1800s!

she’s into fashion, sewing, art, debate, law, running… which is kind of a lot but ok.. contains multitudes ig.

great vibes. kind of makes me think of percy jackson and good omens

i feel like there are only two truly good people in this entire book lol. a sociopath definitely spiced some things up tho! but tbh were this far through and i’m still wondering what the point is/what it’s building up to… we barely even know anything about the narrator

ok i'm more taken with this book than i would have ever expected. not my normal jam but it's a little addicting? having a horse named doxology is really funny. but the casual racism (being set around the turn of the 20th century) is cRAZY!!!!!!

this worldbuilding is soooo good. have to really focus bc they sometimes say the wildest things that i’m like “wait they actually have a second circulatory system??” … anyway major slay

this is really interesting to see into the mind of a neurosurgeon but wow do i not like graphic descriptions of the horrors of surgery and injury… this is why i’m not a doctor

a bit slow and very ~qUiRkY~ narrator, but i also just don’t read contemporary as much so i’m not used to this stuff in a book (feels better suited for a movie)

interesting premise that is still being built up (bit slow but the narration style is interesting). but like.. never being able to change your hair for that long would drive me insane

it’s really funny the random british words in this book since the author is from the uk. like “revising” and “a4 paper”
