"she lifted her veil in the presence of Bāyazīd al- Bisṭāmī, causing her husband consternation and jealousy. She responded, “You are intimate with my physical self. Abū Yazīd is intimate with my spiritual way. You rouse my passion. He brings me to God. The proof of this is that he can dispense with my company, whereas you need me.”"

"Rābiʿa actively encouraged Aḥmad (her husband) to take other wives to satisfy his sexual needs and even provided him with the money for their dowries. Indeed, as he prepared to visit his other wives, she would perfume him and present him with sweet meats to take to them."

hmmm very loaded definitions, quite over exaggerated imo and not necessarily supported, it feels to me this book is written for someone who’s already an anti secular Muslim rather than someone who’s curious or skeptical, maybe I’m just judging too early, idk I’ll continue reading

I’ve read 5 books in 2025, which is definitely not much but they were all very good and it was a hard year tbf.

In 2026, I want to continue focusing on reading nonfiction mostly politics and philosophy. I think getting an e-reader might help? I set my goal to 10 books, I want to be realistic with myself but I am hoping for 25 books.

What are y’all’s reading plans?

Can’t find the time to sit down and read books. However, I’ve been reading a lot of academic papers.

Good intro I guess, I just don't like the fact that the translator says that he certainly believes that some of the poems are inauthentic yet he still included them mmmmmmmm

This book is, unironically, really stressing me out. It’s written in chronological order, and even though we all know what happened in Afghanistan, reading about it while knowing what’s to come pains me.

May Allah curse Amreeka.

I love how everyone she talks to in Afghanistan is fond of Mullah Omar, like she very much fails at presenting him in a bad light because of how clearly he cared for his people even though he failed in many areas.

This book is beyond excellent but I’ll stop reading it until I get a physical copy because I’m struggling to focus reading the pdf.

My Irish professor recommended this to me because I showed him poetry by Palestinian prisoner Nasser Al-Shawish and he said it looks like it could be written by Bobby Sands.

Sartre admits in the preface that this book doesn’t need one, yet he wrote it anyway?? I don’t understand why he felt the need to insert himself into it. While I agree with many of his points, I didn’t need a white man to tell me that. It feels like it defeats the purpose of the book.
