Cancer reorganises the terms on which the body is seen, managed, narrated, and priced.

“Yawns abound. Vacuums in the magnetism of the mood. Something close to boredom. The astronauts were going to the moon, but everybody was a little frustrated.”

Cancer appears intimate because it enters the body. But it is never only intimate. It is also industrial, economic, and historical.

We call it a disease, which of course it is, but that is not all it is. It is also a social condition, a machinery of probabilities, a market of treatment, and a hierarchy of survival.
