Brilliant so far

Was already on page 100 or so when discovered that it was the 2nd book in the quartet. Reluctantly but at the same time with great anticipation have just begun the Virgin in the garden.

Delightful and precious

A collection of random historical facts. Curious but kind of too random and factual to my taste. I doubt it, that I will finish the book

I underestimated the 1st book. The second one is an enjoyable read.

This book should be read slowly to be taken in. Clear and beautiful language.

Well... I'm not sure about this one. It is clear, that the expectations are high, "A Little Life" was a ground-breaking experience. This book - somehow I cannot truly connect with the characters and events so far. I'm listening it on Audible, the narrators are fantastic, the language is beautiful, the themes are relatable, but it has yet not clicked for me personally. Still have half of the book to go - we'll see.

Fascinating how I could have missed such colorful personages before. The book is full of details though, references to who is who to whom - a bit unnecessary for someone who is not very acquainted with the aristocratic scene in the UK.

A bit too much of geography for me, the narrative is kind of jumpy time-wise and literary sophisticated, which is not bad but makes it difficult to follow the story sometimes. Alex Jennings’s reading is brilliant though.

First three chapters are fascinating so far - vivid descriptions, rich expressive language. Some interesting story is developing. A bit dark and stinky though - as it probably was back in the middle 19th century English harbors.

I feel like I’m a first year student at the English department at the university - innocent of all the knowledge ahead and awfully enthusiastic to run to the library after each and every chapter.

This book is a time-machine so far - it transports you to all kind of places in the 17th century

Intriguing beginning but I can’t make it to the end. Perhaps will never do.

I’m on Chapter 16, and - well, I wish there was more Jeeves in the book rather than of young Bingo.

Very enjoyable and soothing. I love to watch Ferguson grow in many different ways. The relationship between mother and son is a special treat to read about. The book is rather long though - almost 900 pages - but it is for the best.

On chapter 35 and absolutely thrilled! It is my favourite of Gaskell's novels so far.
