Literally every other page is making my eyes well up with tears. I have not read a story that provoked such love and sadness in me in a long time.

The sentences are so clipped, i feel like every time i read the flow of words is disturbed. It makes reading this very slow and kind of annoying

I love how quickly this reads, although sometimes I find myself being struck by how simple the prose is, especially when describing the inner thoughts of our characters. Maybe the third person POV is to blame? The worldbuilding is awesome, it feels immersive, but not too convoluted

I think we should stop putting stuff like “this is the successor to THG” on the cover of books. I find that it is really tainting my reading experience

I might be wrong, but so far, I do not like this. The writing feels really bleak, everything is very clearly words on a page…they are not evoking anything to me. Maybe it gets better

Breaking news: reading a low-stakes, feel-good, light hearted book will actually make you happy if you don’t listen to the worm in your brain telling you to read “serious” and “substantial” books

I can see how this book would be confusing for some, and it is also confusing me, I have to say. But I just try to enjoy every chapter for what it is. Given that it is such a short novel, I think I have the liberty to do that without the feeling like my time is being wasted reading some disjointed mess. I really like the author’s writing, too.

I saw very differing reviews of this book, some saying it was scary as hell, some giving it a 1-star rating and calling it boring. All I'll say is that I had literal shivers running down my bones while reading this. It is definitely effective for me.

I knew this book was worth buying; the title story was so good, equal parts disturbing and endearing. I loved it !!

starting october with the ultimate horror classic

It is a bewildering experience to read from the POW of this man, to see his reasoning, to see how he contradicts himself, his views and actions and disgusting ambition… to imagine that a person could have such lowly thoughts of others is truly saddening. This is one of the most engaging books I’ve read this year.
