Why is no one in the reviews for the book not absolutely disgusted by the child abuse by a mother and a mentor?? I'm just not invested in any of these characters 😒

SO GOOD

Aside from binge reading the Wiki article on the internment of Japanese Americans a few years ago and then reading George Takei's graphic novel 'They Called Us Enemy' on his experience as a child in the internment camps, this is my first book on the subject and it is fascinating and upsetting! I'm glad I picked this up!

Even though I'm from Fort Collins and am super excited to see diverse viewpoints injected into my very white community, Soil has just been pretty boring thus far. I guess I have higher expectations for a poet's personal story than is realistic?

I'm DNFing this. It's a fun concept that's just not landing most of the time for me. :(

I'm only 10% in but the prose and the storytelling is magical and tender and provoking and it may very well be one of my favorite reads ever.
