This book covers a wide ranges, like a mural compared to a painting, it is broad and there is so much to look at. Yet, so far, it works and keeps me interested but not confused.

I'm intrigued by his take on the Five Percent Nation. It sounds like it really helped him as a young black man. I might've been tempted to judge the FPN "book" by it's cover, but thankfully I was introduced to it through this book and can see that it is helpful to many people. Even though it may not be MY religion, if it helps them become better people, then I'm glad.

This is one long a** book! I read and read and the % complete barely moves. There are a lot of characters but so far not too many to keep track of. I keep hoping the hours left calculator or the % is not working correctly. It's not that I don't like the characters, I just don't want to be reading this book for the rest of my life.

Still enjoying this book. Picking up some new perspective. Like, if a kid gets beat for doing "xyz" but they survive the beating a couple times, then going forward they can decide, if they want to do "xyz", the price is a beating and if they are willing to pay that price then they are not deterred from doing "xyz".

If I had started this book last year, I might not have gotten past a few pages. These pages are not for the faint of eyes. There's a lot of curse words because that's just the natural way this guy talks. Since I started a new job with troubled youth, I hear this kind of talk all day and I've become less sensitive. It's not for nothing though - the language does provide a deeper sense of the world he grew up in.

So far I'm more intrigued than annoyed. Intrigued because the narrator is a bit edgy and mysterious. Annoyed because he talks like one of those people you meet that refer to their extended family by first name with no explanation and speak as if you know exactly who JoJo is and what the relation is between them and Susie. But maybe that adds to the mystery. It's definitely clear the narrator needs redemption.

I have already referred to this book several times in conversations with other people. Today I was talking to someone about the holocaust and we talked about history repeating itself and I referenced how this book draws a correlation between the 1918 Flu pandemic and then soon after Hitler came to power and how the socialists are trying to position themselves to be in power as the Covid pandemic comes to a close.

French is not my first language; I've never even studied French. But I speak several other languages so I get the gist of what is being said in this book. (I won a Free copy in French.)

This is not a comedy book. Instead, it's a book about how China is influencing the world. SCARY!

This is the third Danielle Steel novel I read. So far it hasn't grabbed me. If I were a quitter, I would've quit 10 pages ago. I know she has a style that works for her and sells millions of books - a style that does not include much dialogue. But this book is super-dry and scarce on the dialogue.

So far it's fabulous. I have so many highlights because it connects with me (and probably most women) on so many points. I have a feeling though it will get weird and, while still interesting, not connectable.

I'm not a quitter - & I love Nick Hornby so I'm still reading this book. If I wasn't as much a fan of Nick Hornby as he is of soccer, I would've quit. About a Boy is my all time fave film. I find it hilarious. This book, not so much. You know how a soccer game is 90 mins & only about 5 of those minutes are really exciting - that's how this book feels. I actually consider soccer my fave sport - but not like this

If Winnie the Pooh's friend Tigger wrote a book it would be this one. I know the current trend is to tell a story with so many flashbacks that it is like two separate stories in two different time periods with a common theme - but this one bounces back and forth so much I can't keep up in audio format. For example, a chapter begins with the years it covers: 1938, 1931, 1932 so it's flashbacks have flashbacks.

Begins with a good foundation that explains how society got to the point it is now with hyper-sensitivity to words, particularly around college campuses in relation to the iGen (born 1995 or later).
