Someone named Leonard Gribble portrays her as an "overweight and overbearing female" who "spent money recklessly on clothes" for "her gross body". Obviously, clothing is a privilege intended only for the slim and attractive. Rest of us gotta go nude.

I recently rewatched the movie, which gave me a taste for a reread. It's interesting how different the book version of the biologist is - she's... harsher, more clinical, to some extent misanthropic. Especially the sections relating to the husband are complete opposite to the movie's tone. In comparison, Natalie Portman's version seems... a bit Hollywood "likeable female character".

We are past the prologue! The multiple forewords were very spoilery which I don't really appreciate, but the actual text is a good time so far. Had a very thorough tour of the town, the narrative has roundly and creatively insulted every single resident except perhaps Pooty's donkey: "nearly as old as himself and faith! twice as good-looking"
