Oh, this is a subtle, intriguing work; going differently than I expected.

This is an interesting concept: a fantasy novella in which the magical + cultural world building is centred on and around funerary rites. One of Eden Royce's writerly preoccupations is death and grieving. I'm always here for it.

That Riddles in the Dark chapter remains pure excellence.

This flashback to the title character's childhood is exactly my thing. I never realise how starved I am for details on what life was/is like in other Caribbean countries until I read a book like this. Give me all the details on how the houses are built, the community store goods, the food culture—all of it. ♥️

Well! Idk but I'm intrigued by the writing for the Jamaican character. Let's see. 🤔

These stories are such a rollicking good time. The relationship mix ups are unparalleled and the spookiness is top notch. If you love Halloween you'll love it. Just know that anyone who isn't a strong vodka drinking Cossack dude fighter is persona non grata.

Sherry Thomas never disappoints. My audiobook listens have been quite gruesome as of late. I needed a lighter, more humorous literary intrigue. This is proving to be deeelightful.
