Reading the chapter when Smaug flies out makes me wish the films were better. I'd love to see it but who's watching all the crap (except Pace, McKellen and Freeman of course) to get there. Regret of my life that Guillermo del Toro wasn't director.

Tolkien's dwarves tho... Cringe City from the start. Always throws a pall over everything when he starts in on their noses and "calculating" nature.

Finding the book much more amusing than I remembered. I found the "children's author" voice a more annoying in the past, but appreciate the hand holding in my old age.

I'm in desperate need of a comfort read so Tolkien it is. This may be only the 3rd time I've read this title as it does not rank among my favourites from Tolkien. All the same, I'm sure it deserves about 3 stars. (Musta been grumpy when I gave it 2.)
