Bought this at the “Penn author sale” and had high hopes but BROOO what is this. Borderline historical FICTION. I thought we would get real journalism going on here but alas it’s like when you have a crush and you become delulu and want to make connections that aren’t really there…

the longer i spend on this book the more i am in awe of the research and work that went into this. wow

I’d like to believe most parents are trying their best with what they have. I also want to believe that bc we are human beings, there’s no perfect family. The beginning of the book feels very finger-pointing-y and gives me the impression that “there’s a perfect family out there if only your parents tried hard enough”. The chapters about externalizers vs internalizers are informative and practical.

the chapter about democracy is so western-centric it’s funny

Was expecting something profound, I had high hopes, so far: meh. Perchance I am not the intended audience

I. Am. So. Hooked. The style is engaging, great storytelling and covers past present future at every “stage of life” seamlessly. Just when you thought this random fact about a yale swimming team is irrelevant, kapow here’s how it ties to his political moves later. But had to return to the lib :( might buy this for my library
