An infuriatingly dim-witted, egocentric young man entangles himself in an obviously disastrous pseudo-marriage with very young woman he just met on an omnibus. Betrayal, madness and blind revenge ensue ... with the questionable hero never the wiser. But - Wilkie Collins can sell me anything, be it ever so improbable and unsympathetic, as in this case.
