Quite a slow start. But once the story shifts gear, it shifts multiple gears at once.

What I’ve noticed so far:

- It’s definitely slower to read with the help of a translating app, than just reading a book in a language you know. But it’s going much smoother than I was expecting it to go.

- Sometimes I don’t even need to use the app. Already knowing a few Germanic languages does help. And learning a few basic Swedish words with Duolingo is really paying off very quickly.

Someone recently told me about how well a translating app worked while they were on vacation in Japan. The first thought that popped into my head was: would it be possible to read a book in a language you don’t know with the help of a translating app? So I bought myself this book in Swedish. This is either a really stupid idea, or an absolutely brilliant one. Either way, this just seems like a very fun challenge.

The author clearly did a lot of research and tries his best to make a large portion of history more accessible and more appealing to a larger audience. I appreciated the British humor at first. Though the very one-sided storytelling is getting a bit much.
